This Privacy Policy explains what information The Writing Detective (writingdetective.com, “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you visit this website, why we collect it, and how it is used. If anything here is unclear, email lindsey@writingdetective.com and we will answer directly.
Who we are
The Writing Detective is a content marketing, PR, and writing practice run by Lindsey Chastain. This site is writingdetective.com.
Information we collect
Information you provide directly. When you submit the contact form on this site, we collect your name, email address, and whatever message or project details you choose to include. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and, if you become a client, to manage that working relationship.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it, which pages get read, roughly how much traffic the site gets, and what devices and browsers people use. This tool collects information like your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and how long you spent on them. This data is aggregated and used to understand and improve the site, not to identify you personally.
Cookies. This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics for the traffic reporting described above, and standard WordPress cookies that support core site functionality. We do not use cookies for advertising or ad retargeting.
How we use your information
- To respond to messages sent through the contact form
- To deliver services to clients, including project communication and invoicing
- To understand site traffic and improve the content and experience on this site
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of third-party services to run this site and our business, and those providers process data on our behalf:
- Cloudways, our web hosting provider, which stores site data on its servers.
- Google Analytics, for the traffic and usage data described above.
- WPForms, the plugin that powers the contact form and stores form submissions on this site.
These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their function and are not authorized to use it for anything else.
How long we keep information
Contact form submissions are kept as long as needed for the business purpose they were submitted for, such as ongoing client correspondence, and are deleted when there is no longer a reason to retain them. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us at any time to tell you what personal information we have about you, to correct it, or to delete it. To do so, email lindsey@writingdetective.com. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them, though this may affect how parts of the site function.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site or our tools change. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent update.
